ITINERARY

1st Day: Huaraz – Llamac – Jahuacocha
Very early in the morning we will drive with private transport in about 4h30 min. to the south of Callejón de Huayas (Alley of the Huayas), until we reach the Conococha Lake. From the lake we descent left towards the village of Chiquián, where we take a short break. Then we continue to the town of Llamac at an altitude of 3300 m. In this town our donkeys and donkey drivers will be waiting for us.
After locating our camping equipment and food on the backs of the donkeys we start hiking all the way up to Pampa Llamac at an altitude of 4300 m. From here we walk down a bit, until we reach the Jahuacocha Lake, our campsite for tonight

2nd Day: Laguna Jahuacocha - Cuartelhuain
After an early breakfast we continue our trek through the valley, along a trail that’s almost flat, until we reach the Solterococha Lake at an altitude of 4250 m. From this lake we start ascending to the Sambunya Pass, at an altitude of 4750 m. This viewpoint offers a great view over the snowcapped Ninashanca, Rondoyn, Yerupaja and other mountains.
After taking pictures we will descent all the way to Cuartelhuain at an altitude of 4100 m. This will be our campsite for tonight.

3rd Day: Cuartelhuain – Laguna Carhuacocha
After breakfast we start our trekking of today in the direction of the Cacananpunta Pass, at an altitude of 4700 m. Then we hike down into the valley of Mitucocha and back up again towards the Carhuac Pass at 4650 m. This mountain pass offers us great panoramic views over the Jirishanca, Ninashanca, Rondoy and other impressive mountains.
From Carhuac Pass we walk down until our campsite at Carhuacocha at an altitude of 3900 m.

4th Day: Laguna Carhuacocha – Huayhuash
After breakfast we first walk down towards the Ganrajanca, Siula and Quesillococha lakes. Then we will have to hike all the way back up until the Siula Pass, at an altitude of 4800 m, with beautiful views over the Cordilleras. Tonight we sleep at the Huayhuas campsite at an altitude of 4300 m.

5th Day: Huayhuash - Viconga
Today we have a relative easy day, starting with a gradual ascent towards the mountain pass Portachuelo de Huayhuas at 4750 m. This pass offers a great view over the Raura Mountain Range before we walk down to Viconga at 4300 m. Viconga has a view small hot springs with mineral rich water that is heated by thermo activity from the earth.
Our campsite is next to these springs, so we can use them to bathe before preparing dinner.

6th Day: Viconga – Guanacpatay
After a good breakfast and dip in the hot spring, we start early with the ascent to the Cuyoc Pass. With an altitude of 5000 m this mountain pass is the highest point of our trekking. It offers an amazing view over the Huayhuas Mountain Range, including some of its prominent mountains like the Siula and Yerupaja. From Cuyoc we descent 750 m to our campsite in Guanacpatay.

7th Day: Guanacpatay – Huatiac
Today we will hike a longer distance but with only little elevation. Halfway our hike we will reach the village of Huayllapa, where we will have the option to buy additional supplies.
From Huayllapa we continue to our campsite of Huatiac at an altitude of 4350 m. From this campsite you have a good view over the Diablo Mudo (Silent Devil) Mountain.

8th Day: Huatiac – Laguna Jahuacocha
After breakfast we start our day with two ascents towards the Tapush Pass (4800 m) and the Yaucha Pass (4800 m). After the second pass we descent towards the Jahuacocha Lake at an altitude of 4200 m. Our campsite is on the shores of the lake with spectacular views over the Hirishanca, Yerupajá and Carnicero mountains.

9th Day: Laguna Jahuacocha – Llamac - Huaraz
After our last breakfast of this trekking we start with a light ascent towards Pampa Llama (4300 m). After a last view over the Huayhuas Mountain Range, we descent to the small town of Llamac (3300 m). After a short rest our private transport will bring us back to Huaraz.
Walking time : 5 horas aprox
Maximum altitude : 4 300 msnm (Pampa Llamac)
