4 Days Santa Cruz Trek

TRAVEL SCHEDULE

Day 1: Huaraz - Vaqueria - Paria (3700 m. - 3870 m.)
Day 2: Paria - Taullipampa (3870m. 4750m. - 4250m.)
Day 3: Taullipampa - Llamacorral (4250 m. - 3850 m.)
Day 4: Llamacorral - Cashapampa - Huaraz ( 3850 m.- 3350 m.)

ITINERARY

1st Day: Huaraz – Vaqueria – Paria
Early in and transfer to Vaquería (3700 m) located 4 hours the morning pick up from your hotel northeast from Huaraz city in Conchucos area, to the other side of Llanganuco Valley and Portachuelo Pass. In Vaquería the donkey drivers are waiting for us to carry the load on the donkeys and start the amazing traverse to the cross of the Paria and Huaripampa Valleys where our first campsite is located at 3870 m. During the first day we will appreciate the impressive Taulliraju Peak (5830 m.) at the end of the Quebrada Huaripampa. Overnight and dinner at the campsite.

2nd Day: Paria – Punta Union - Taullipampa
After breakfast we iniciate the ascent to the highest point of the trek at 4760 m in Punta Union Pass between Huaripampa and Santa Cruz Valleys. Reaching this point is an inestimable reward: a view of the Santa Cruz Valley surrounded by peaks of 6,000 meters, turquoise lagoons, the ideal place to take pictures. It takes from 4 to 5 hours to climb up to the pass and 1 to 2 hours to climb down to Taullipampa Campsite at 4,250 m, a plain at the feet of the impressive and steep Taulliraju Peak, scenery of colossal world climbing feats.

3rd Day: Taullipampa - Llamacorral
Early in the morning after breakfast starts the descent to Llamacorral. The first stop is the fascinating view point where you can see the Aguja Peak, Caraz, Artesonraju, Alpamayo and Quitaraju. The walk down to Llamacorral takes about 4 to 6 hours. The name Taulliraju means purple, due to the flowers of this color that grow in the valley: The “Taulli” Flower. We continue descending passing the turquoise Hatun Cocha Lake (Big Lake) and Ichic cocha Lake (Small Lake). From here it takes only a few minutes to arrive to the next campsite at 3850 m.

4th Day: Llamacorral - Cashapampa - Huaraz
The last day is an easy descent from 3 to 4 hours to Cashapampa 3350 m) appreciating the material of the huge avalanche of 2011. In Cashapampa town the transportation is waiting to take us back to Huaraz city. Huaraz is about 2 ½ hours from this location. In arrival to Huaraz transfers to your hotel or agency.
Walking time : 3/ 4 hours

Note: this trek can also be done the other way around, using the same campsite, but starting from Cashapampa and hiking towards Vaqueria

Recommendations about what to bring:
- Small backpack (45 liters)
- Big backpack or bag
- Sportive clothes (short pants, t-shirt, sunhat)
- Sunglasses with UV protection
- Sun block and repellent
- Warm clothes (thermal underwear, fleece jacket and pants, waterproof jacket and pants, gloves, wool hat, 2 or 3 pairs of cotton and wool socks)
- Camera
- Headlamp or flashlight
- Trekking boots
- Sandals
- Purifying pills
- Plastic bags for the rainy season
- Water bottle or cantimplore

In Huaraz city it is possible to rent waterproof jacket and pants, down jacket, headlamp, and backpack for an additional price.

Recommendations for a good acclimation:
- Rest the first day
