Chavin and Querococha Lake

From Huaraz it is a very scenic (3h30 min) route with views over snowcapped mountains, towards Chavín (around 109 km). You will make a short stop at the attractive Querococha lake and after you will pass through the high altitude tunnel of Cahuish, before entering the valley of Chavin.
The impressive archeological site of Chavin de Huantar consists of temples, subterranean galleries and sunken squares and was constructed about 800 B.C. to honor the Gods of the local civilization. One of the main attractions is called ‘El Lanzon’ a huge sculpture of about 4 m high, in the shape of a knife. Other interesting signs include the “La pared de las Cabezas Clavas” or “the wall of the Key Heads”. After a visit of the local onsite museum, you will return to Huaraz.
