Before most groups from the tours in shared arrive we will visit the impressive archeological site of Las Huacas del Sol y la Luna (tombs/ temples of the sun and the moon), from the Moche culture (100-700 AC). Several structures on this site are still decorated with well conserved paintings on the walls. These paintings can explain us a many things about the history of the Moche culture.
The beautiful decorated golden and ceramic objects found on this archeological site can be seen in the museum on site.
From the Huacas we drive to the small fishing town of Huanchaco. Each morning the fishermen of this town take their “Caballitos de Totora” to enter the sea and go fishing. These Caballitos de Totora are small boats made of Totora reed according to a design from the Moche culture. Drawings of these boats have been found on ceramics of more than 1000 years old!
Huanchaco is also a good place to buy handicrafts.

In the afternoon we will visit the biggest adobe city ever build. The monumental zone still covers around six square kilometers from what has been estimated to be once twenty square kilometer.
The Outstanding Universal Value of Chan Chan resides in the extensive, hierarchically planned remains of this huge city, including remnants of the industrial, agricultural and water management systems that sustained it.
Chan Chan was once build by the Chimu culture (remnants from the Moche) between 900 AD until the Inca’s arrived around 1470 AD.
The most impressive structures on this site include, Palacio Nik-An with different nature, bird and fish motives on its walls. After visiting the center and main archeological site of Chan Chan, we will also visit Huaca Arco Iris a recently restored ceremonial site from the Chimu, about 6 km from the center of Trujillo.
